Scan Cabinet privacy policy
Effective 2026-11-06. Applies to the Scan Cabinet apps for iPhone and Android and the Scan Cabinet desktop app, published by Saltmarsh Studios ("we").
The short version
Scan Cabinet has no account, no server and no analytics. Your documents are read on your own device and saved only to the folder you choose. The app never uploads them anywhere.
What the app handles
- Documents and photos you scan or import. The app reads the text on the page (on-device text recognition), names the file and saves it as a PDF in your cabinet folder. Those files, and the cabinet index stored beside them in a `.cabinet` folder, stay in that folder. If you choose a folder that a cloud app syncs, that cloud provider's own terms apply to what it syncs; Scan Cabinet does not send anything to it directly.
- Scanners and printers on your Wi-Fi. To find and use them, the app talks to devices on your local network only (standard AirScan/eSCL and IPP protocols). Addresses you add by hand are stored on your device.
- Settings. Your folder choice, drawer list, file-name pattern and scan settings are stored on your device.
The camera scanner on Android is provided by Google Play services' on-device document scanner. On iPhone, the camera scanner and text recognition are Apple's built-in VisionKit and Vision, which run on the device. In both cases the images stay on the device and are handed back to Scan Cabinet.
Ads and purchases (App Store and Google Play versions)
The free version shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. Ads never appear over your documents or while scanning. To show ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects device identifiers (on Android the advertising ID; on iPhone the vendor identifier, because Scan Cabinet never asks to track you, so the SDK does not get Apple's advertising identifier), IP address, and ad interaction data, as described in Google's policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Where the law requires consent (for example the EEA, UK and Switzerland), the app asks first using Google's consent tool, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad privacy choices. Your documents and their text are never shared with the ad SDK.
"Remove ads forever" is a one-time purchase handled by the App Store or Google Play, and "Restore purchase" in Settings brings it back on a new device. Scan Cabinet receives only a confirmation that you own it; Apple or Google handles payment details.
Children
Scan Cabinet is not directed at children under 13.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app removes its settings. Your documents are ordinary files in the folder you chose and remain yours; delete them with the Files app or any file manager if you want them gone.
